Development of Web Portal
Background
Clicks and Links were commissioned by Dingle Opportunities and the Innovation Factory to design and implement a new community portal for the Dingle area of Liverpool. Based on OpenCms 7.0, this engaging website provides local residents, community groups and organisations with an informative, content-rich and accessible website.
Brief
Clicks and Links remit was to design a community website which was to offer a wide range of functionality including:
- Content Channels for community created content incl. Community events, Community news, ‘Swap shop’, Community jobs;
- Separate subsite templates that allow community groups, voluntary organisations and local businesses to develop, host and manage their web presence via the Liv-it portal;
- Online surveys;
- Controlled site registration and login functionality;
- Email with each registered user having a Liv-it.net Email address;
- A Games arcade aimed at young and old alike;
- Search / Advanced Search;
- Online image galleries;
- A series of RSS feeds incl. localised job vacancy information downloaded dynamically;
- Newsletter module.
Solution
The site was built using OpenCms 7.0 which allowed for all the above requirements to be met. The solution is open source and free from licensing costs and benefits from being scalable and fully able to handle the volume of content that this community site produces.
