Second Places and Education in Second Life

Second Places are engaged in developing 'The Learning Space', a Second Life virtual learning environment, in partnership and discussion with a number of education authorities. We view the development of this virtual school environment as being a step forward in developing a fully interactive and state-of-the-art virtual learning environment, within Second Life.

Second Life represents education providers with an outstanding, stimulating and innovative medium. There are substantial benefits to be gained by using Second Life including the modelling of school designs and functions and the opportunity and ability to create vast learning scenarios.

The Learning Space: The Virtual School

Second Places have built The Learning Space Virtual School on the Second Life Teen Grid as an example of how a site could be set up for online learning. Within the site, there are learning examples to illustrate how models could be produced to plan lessons around. There are assembly and exhibition spaces for displays and meetings. Examples of green energy and school facilities, such as anti-bullying spaces, are also shown in the island.
