Lancashire Wide Community Website

The Lancashire Community website is a powerful new website developed in partnership with local government agencies, community groups and business organisations across the county.

The Brief
The website had to:
  • Focus on the needs of residents, businesses and voluntary organisations across Lancashire.
  • Allow relevant content to be accessed and represented to specific community sections for e.g. 'Youth' 'Families', 'Faith Groups' etc
  • Allow Community organisations, societies and clubs to get online and build their own sites
  • Be the primary web site through which Lancashire information is routed, categorised and indexed.
  • Include content structured into 12 geographical sub-sites.
  • Involve government and non-government partners across Lancashire.
  • Be delivered using a content management tool, allowing different organisations and individuals to contribute and maintain content.
  • Provide online tools such as an online shop or stationery designer to benefit local businesses, community organisations and citizens
The Process

The project was led by the Lancashire e-Government Network (LEN) and was funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) and members of the LEN.

Following a competitive tender process, Lancashire County Council engaged The Nesco Partnership to deliver the portal using its portal content management suite, Roundabout. The Nesco Partnership is a consortium of North West companies that have come together to provide comprehensive ICT solutions to local government and communities.

The website aims to establish a single gateway through which all services and information regarding Lancashire can be indexed, signposted and presented to residents, workers and visitors to Lancashire. It's about creating a vibrant online community by providing a framework within which service providers and community users can interact with each other.

The 10 districts involved in the project are
  1. Burnley
  2. Rossendale
  3. Ribble Valley
  4. Fylde
  5. Chorley
  6. South Ribble
  7. West Lancashire
  8. Preston
  9. Wyre
  10. Lancaster & Morecambe

Hyndburn and Pendle have already launched their community sites, click here for more information.
