Kent Year of Innovation by Kent Country Council

Kent Year of Innovation Virtual Innovation Showdown

Wednesday 16th July 2008

The "Kent Year of Innovation" provides an umbrella under which a variety of activities, initiatives and events are being organised throughout the county. This ensures that good ideas are used again throughout the county for the greater and wider benefit of all. In particuar, the initiative aims to:

  • Raise the profile of Kent as a place of innovation and creativity.
  • Showcase individual and joint innovations.
  • Maximise engagement in all innovative work while promoting and encouraging this ethos across Kent.
  • Involve and engage public and communities in innovative activities.
  • Increase funding and partnership opportunities.
  • Act as a catalyst for change and future development.

As part of this activity Second Places helped Kent County Council to organise a one day innovation event with speakers from various organisations including IBM, O2 and Second Places. As well as Real Life events, all talks were broadcasted to an extended Second Life audience at the Second Places Virtual Events Arena at real time.
